Marathon Seafood Festival

The original annual Marathon Seafood Festival is brought by the combined effort of the Marathon chapter of the Organized Fishermen of Florida and the Greater Marathon Chamber of Commerce.

On Saturday and Sunday, March 18 & 19, 2006, will be the 35th annual Marathon Seafood Festival celebrating the fishermen, their catch and their history. To be held on the grounds at the Florida Keys Marathon Airport, MM 51, there will be music, a nautical flea market, marine equipment, boat show, arts and crafts, airplanes, and FOOD - wonderful dishes made from fresh local seafood.

The Seafood Festival continues to be the Greater Marathon Chamber of Commerce's primary fund raiser of the year.

MARATHON, Florida Keys — Gourmet delicacies from the waters of the Florida Keys including stone crab, lobster and conch highlight the 31st annual Original Marathon Seafood Festival, slated for Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28, at the Florida Keys Marathon Airport.

Located at mile marker 52 bayside, the airport is to be transformed into a fairground and market for the festival, with vendors offering fresh seafood and desserts such as Key lime pie as well as arts and crafts, nautical goods and other merchandise. Other attractions are to include boat displays, experimental aircraft demonstrations, airplane rides, jet fighter pilot simulations and special activities for children including a balloon tent.

Live entertainment by area bands playing rock ‘n’ roll, country music and more round out the fun for the entire family.

The seafood festival is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per adult and free for children under 12, and each entrant receives a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a basket of seafood valued at $500. Parking is $2 per vehicle.

Festival proceeds benefit the Marathon Chamber of Commerce for its operating costs and programming, and the Marathon chapter of the Organized Fisherman of Florida for scholarships.
